The debate between brains and computers, and particularly which is superior to which, is now an old one. 
But according to the expert opinion, the brain stands out in some crucial ways.

As a brain researcher, I know for a fact that the human brain is far superior to any computer processor currently in existence. 
And for the most part, this has a lot to do with the brain’s capacity for being creative. 

In a recent report published on the Charter Spectrum Internet forum, some cutting-edge researchers in an Australian university matched the human brain against an A.I bot. 
The robot, despite being built using the latest hardware and software tools, was unable to perform well against the human subject. 
These results weren’t surprising to anyone actively involved in the field – to be honest.
In this post, I’ll discuss the two fronts on which the human brain is prominently ahead of its new-age competition. 
And these are the domains of ‘Strategy’ and ‘Thought-processing’
These two issues also make up some of the primary areas of new research in the field.

     The brain still ranks out on top when it comes to devising an instant strategy. 
      And it’s destined to stay that way for the foreseeable future.
Strategy, when you come to think about it, has everything to do with creativity. 
To thinking up strange new solutions to solve complicated problems. 
If we think broadly enough, the whole history of human progress & development is actually rooted in this natural facility. 
Inventions are made when people face new kinds of obstacles, and when they choose to stray from the beaten path. 
From the way in which people in the past may have dealt with similar situations. 
This takes confidence, courage, and a willingness to take on risks. 
It is a fact that most of the people we take great pride in celebrating today are the visionaries who went on this path. 

And as expected, they didn’t have it easy against the status-quo of their times.

But they still ‘listened’ to their ‘brains’ calling – and ended up changing the course of civilization as we know it.
Exposing Computer Processors with a Game of Chess

A computer processor is repetitive. It relies on past knowledge and experience to come up with a solution. 

And these ‘solutions’ are mostly only fit to tackle problems that are similar to the previous ones. 

When faced with a new challenge, and one which breaks the ‘rules’ of the set game, it panics. 
And its hesitation becomes evident when it produces a response.
A very good example of where this failing can be observed in full is when someone engages in a game of chess with a PC
People who learned to play the game using their home system will get to understand this perfectly.
At first, the software seems to win in every successive match. 
This is because it is familiar with all the common tricks and strategies that make way for a checkmate.
But, this isn’t long before the human player starts to notice a pattern. 
And this becomes evident in each match; no matter how difficult. 

However, the Checkmate Gaming which is normally a Competitive Video Gaming is not like such. 

The community is dedicated in putting the players needs first.

Accounting for the Predictability Factor

This is the predictability factor of computer systems that point to a lack of creativity. 

And this can be exploited by any human – because he or she will now understand how the system will react.

As at 15 years old, I started to recognize such patterns right away when my dad brought home our first desktop computer

And this came about (surprise) when I first started to learn chess on it. 

In my case, the same observation held true for other games like scrabble and minefield. 
As well as for all the arcade video games that I received as gifts later on.
Thought-processing, in some ways, can be considered akin to a computer’s processing interface. 
Only the brain has no set speed at which it processes information. 
Unlike computer processors, which come attached with a system clock with a defined rate. 
Because of its internal chemistry, the brain processes different thoughts at different priority levels.
By focusing more energy on its most immediate tasks at hand, the brain achieves greater concentration levels than any computer system
And its solutions are well-contemplated.
‘Instinct’ plays a major role in the brain’s thought-processing circuitry. 

In many cases, it actually ‘guides’ the brain to achieve a clearer grasp of the situation at hand. 

And it offers several solutions of its own. 

A few days before writing this post, I happened to come across an article that talked about a new robot that had passed the ‘Turin’s Test’. 
Working for the Spectrum Bundles project, the writer of the piece also explained how several ISP companies were looking for ways to incorporate the new technology
But even with this latest piece of advancement, I have little doubt that the brain will still manage to win in the end.
